CASTLE Lager Premier Soccer League Golden Boot Winner and Soccer Star of the Year finalist, Tendai “Fire” Ndoro is tomorrow set to hold a farewell football tournament that will see four teams fight it out at the player’s childhood suburb of Nketa 8 in Bulawayo. The four teams that will feature in the tournament are Ndoro 11, made up of the Empumalanga Black Aces player’s former team mates, Nketa 7-based Bulawayo Christian League (BCL) champions Sangano Revapositori, Simba Rusike coached Nketa All Stars and Lee Mangena mentored Street Set Under-19.
“This is just a farewell tournament. It is a gesture that is meant to help me say goodbye and thank all those who made me what I am. I am just saying thank you to the people of Nketa and former teammates at Chicken Inn and Kujatana,” said Ndoro.
“My parents will grace the tournament and after the games, everyone will be invited for lunch at my parents’ place in Nketa and thereafter with those who are willing we will go out and socialise at their place of choice,” said Ndoro who is set to debut in Mpumalanga Black Aces colours on January 24 against Kaizer Chiefs at FNB Stadium.
The first match of the day will see curtain raisers Sangano Revapositori play against Street Set Under-19 while the challenge match between the Ndoro 11 and Nketa All Stars will come soon after.
Players who are expected to feature in the Ndoro 11 squad are Julius Daudi, Thabani Goredema, Thandazani “Malele” Ndlovu, goalkeepers Liberty Chirava and Njabulo Nyoni, Brian Mbiriri, Zephaniah Ngodzo, Thomas Chimenya and Mkhokheli Dube among others.
Ndoro and his friends will be under the tutelage of former Chicken Inn head coach Mandla “Lulu” Mpofu who also once mentored Ndoro at Kujatana, a Victoria Falls-based former Zifa Southern Region Division One outfit.
Bulawayo Christian League chairman, Timothy Mandizadza was full of praise for Ndoro saying the tournament would also afford the player a chance to interact and motivate budding stars.
“In as much as we are coming into this tournament to raise the profile of Bulawayo Christian League, we are one way or the other trying to help the youths realise their full potential.
“Ndoro has done a great thing for the community of Nketa, Bulawayo and the nation at large. Hopefully youngsters will be encouraged to take up sports seriously. We are also expecting that the Tendai Ndoro farewell tournament will help motivate youths to interact,” said Mandizadza.
Last Thursday, Mandizadza and Ndoro sponsored a winner-takes-all four team tournament in Nketa 7 that saw the Bekithemba “Super” Ndlovu inspired Nketa Old Timers pocket $200.
