THE Castle Lager Premier Soccer League’s leading goal scorer Chicken Inn’s Tendai Ndoro who has banged 10 goals in 15 championship matches has set his sights on surpassing the 20-goal mark. The former Railstars and Kujatana FC striker has been a marvel for the Gamecocks with his goals ensuring that Chicken Inn jointly lead the championship race.
Chicken Inn are second on the table tied on 29 points with Highlanders who have a superior goal difference.
Ndoro has scored 10 of his team’s 21 goals and admits that had he not been wasteful in some of the matches, his tally could have been higher.
“When the season started I set myself a target of 15 goals but things worked otherwise and seeing that 15 is within reach, I have had to set myself new targets and I am going for 20 league goals. It has been a while since a top goal scorer of the league scored 20 goals and I want to break that jinx. With God on my side, I think that can easily be achieved.
“Actually by now I should have hit 15 goals but there were times I missed clear cut chances that eventually cost the team but I am happy that it didn’t stop me from scoring important goals for my team,” said the lethal Nketa born striker.
Ndoro, popularly known as “Fire” among his peers has lived to the nickname as he is a living nightmare for defenders and goalkeepers.
He singled out his team’s 3-2 home defeat against Monomotapa as his worst match.
“I just want to forget the game against Monomotapa because I cost the team maximum points. I missed more than six clear cut scoring opportunities which should have buried the game. I scored one of the goals for my team and we led 2-0 but they managed to get back into the game and had I utilised the chances that came my way, we could be talking a different story.
“After that game the coach came to me and told me that missing was part of the game and encouraged me to work harder and I am happy with the support I got from my teammates after that,” said Ndoro.
His exploits have seen him earning a national team call-up and is part of the Warriors squad that will participate at next month’s Cosafa tournament in Zambia. Ndoro, despite the fact that his stakes are rising with each outing, remains modest and says “everything is about teamwork.”
“The team comes first. The individual accolades may come but what I want is to help the team win another trophy and that will make me happy. At the moment Chicken Inn is no doubt the best team in the country and everyone knows that what we have to do is continue winning and see where we will be at the end of the year.
Ndoro has the physique and technique what he lacks is probably exerting himself beyond his present capabilities.
