CHICKEN INN and Warriors forward Tendai Ndoro looks assured of the 2013 Castle Lager Premiership Golden Boot award after netting 18 goals and with one match to go, he enjoys a six-goal lead over the second best.
Ndoro is almost guaranteed to be among the country’s 11 best players when selectors meet in the capital this morning.
Before his January switch to Mpumalanga Black Aces in the South African Premier League, Ndoro is set to bank $3 000 prize money for his goals.
His nearest rival, Buffaloes’ Steven Sibanda, is on 12 goals and needs to break records in their meeting with FC Platinum tomorrow to upset the odds.
Ndoro led from the start of the season and was briefly overtaken by Sibanda before coming back with a bang after trials in South Africa. If his coach Joe Antipas includes him in their last match against Triangle, he might even add onto the 18 goals that he has scored so far.
He had set himself a target of 20 goals for the season. And Ndoro should have long surpassed the 20-goal mark had he been even more precise in front of goal.
Pervington Zimunya of Shabanie Mine and Aleck Marime of relegated Tripple B have scored 11 goals each. For Marime, it is a case of tough luck as he had a chance of making it into the country’s 11 best players but has been ruled out after picking 10 yellow cards.
Local football giants Highlanders and Dynamos have Njabulo Ncube and Washington Pakamisa at nine goals each – a worrying statistic for the country’s most successful clubs.
Last year’s Golden Boot winner, Nelson Maziwisa of FC Platinum, has found the net eight times, less than half his 2012 tally.
Graham Ncube, offloaded by Highlanders in the mid-season transfer window, has four goals which is more than the combined total of one scored by his replacements Master Masitara and Tinashe Chipunza.
His former teammate, Masimba Mambare – a pale shadow of the brilliant attacking midfielder he was in 2012 – is on four.
Clemence ‘Little Maestro’ Matawu has justified the faith shown in him by coaches Mandla Mpofu and Mkhuphali Masuku with five goals despite being a midfielder after his mid-season switch from Motor Action to Chicken Inn.
