THE Zifa election court sat on Saturday and incumbent Zifa Bulawayo Metropolitan Province chairman Horace Ndubiwa will square off with long serving secretary-general Washington Chimanda.
Provincial elections will be held on Sunday.
Ndubiwa who was endorsed by Zifa president Cuthbert Dube during a tour of the Zifa Village last month got a shock when his secretary-general Chimanda submitted his nomination papers for vetting.

According to sources within the Zifa Bulawayo Metropolitan Province structure, before the tour to Harare, Ndubiwa had said he would challenge for a position in the Zifa Southern Region while Chimanda was going to be elevated to chairman.

Members agreed that other board members will be Francis Ntutha, Siphambaniso Dube, one Matuka and Mkhululi Mthunzi the former Bulawayo Junior League chairman. All these members will go unopposed for the elections.

In separate interviews yesterday, Ndubiwa and Chimanda said there were ready for the elections and wished the best for the better candidate.

Ndubiwa said he still has some unfinished business.
“Some of the unfinished business I have are about improving our corporate governance and how to portray or behave as professionals. It is important to improve on our integrity and transparency because no one wants to go to bed with people they don’t trust,” said Ndubiwa.

He said he also wants to revive the juniors’ structure as well as attract sponsorship for the province.
Chimanda said his experience in soccer administration was key in turning around the fortunes of the province.

“I have served in various portfolios in football and now I believe it is time that I lead the province. Should I go in, I think this will be my last term and I want to leave a lasting mark.

“Right now we are incorporating juniors into the province and we have to improve the structure because Bulawayo has lots of talented youngsters that we mustn’t lose.

“On the sponsorship, I believe that we have to include everyone and set up a committee to deal with that,” said Chimanda.
