AN 81-year-old Bulilima man told a Plumtree magistrate that he had been impotent for the past 18 years as he was bewitched by his neighbour.

Silonda Moyo of Bhaningumba Village in Madlambuzi area was convicted on his own plea of guilty to indicating witches by Plumtree magistrate, Mr Joshua Mawere.

He was sentenced to four months in prison which was wholly suspended on condition he does not within the next five years commit an offence of a similar nature.

Moyo told the court that he had accused his neighbour, Ms Phiwe Sibanda of bewitching him after consulting a prophet over his condition.

“I haven’t been able to engage in sexual activities with my wife since 1998 Your Worship. I ended up consulting a prophet from the area and he told me that my neighbour Phiwe Sibanda had bewitched me so that my manhood will not work.

“It has been painful for me to live with this embarrassing condition and it has made me feel like I’m no longer a man,” he said.

Prosecuting, Mrs Rose Sibanda said on 22 November Moyo went to Ms Sibanda’s homestead and accused her of sending a goblin to have sexual intercourse with him.

“On November 22 around 8AM Moyo went to his neighbour’s homestead and accused her of bewitching him by sending a goblin to have sexual intercourse with him so that his manhood will be useless.

“He claimed that she sent the goblin sometime in 1998. Ms Sibanda denied the allegations but Moyo insisted and tried to hit her but she ran away and reported the matter to the police resulting in his arrest,” she said.
