A 28-YEAR-OLD Esigodini man has been arrested for allegedly raping his neighbour after forcing his way into her home. Bright Ncube appeared briefly before Gwanda regional magistrate Mrs Sithembiso Ndebele facing a rape charge.

He was not asked to plead and was remanded in custody to July 27.Prosecuting, Mr Ngonidzashe Shumba alleged that Ncube raped the complainant on May 14 at around 9pm after finding her alone at home.

“On 14 May at around 7PM the accused person went to the complainant’s homestead looking for her husband as he wanted to borrow some money. The complainant advised the accused person that her husband was not around as he had travelled to visit some relatives.

“At around 9PM the accused person returned to the complainant’s homestead while drunk and demanded to see her husband. The complainant advised the accused person to leave and return when her husband was back,” he said.

Mr Shumba alleged that the accused refused to leave, forced his way into the complainant’s house and threatened to remain there until her husband returned.

He said when the complainant ordered him to leave, the accused allegedly grabbed her, pushed her onto the bed and raped her before fleeing.

Mr Shumba said the complainant rushed to a neighbour’s house where she reported the incident.
The matter was subsequently reported to the police, leading to Ncube’s arrest.
