and is assisting police with investigations.
He is expected to appear in court soon facing charges of murder and brewing illicit liquor.
It alleged that Muteyawonga gave his nephew Stephen Muteyawonga’s wife Sheila Tabanika (35) a 2kg packet of brown sugar to brew kachasu for him.
Stephen (36), however, confiscated the sugar from his wife and put it to different use. Powerless to confront her husband, Tabanika informed Muteyawonga of the incident.
This did not go down well with Muteyawonga, who confronted Stephen seeking an explanation on why he had stolen the sugar but Stephen was reportedly unco-operativeand this degenerated into a fistfight during which Stephen was overpowered. Muteyawonga, according to reports, then rammed Stephen’s head against a home made metal oven several times and walls. He also allegedly kicked and punched him all over his body. A fellow villager restrained Muteyawonga. Stephen died three days later on Sunday.
Mashonaland Central Acting Provincial Police Spokesperson Assistant Inspector Petros Masikati confirmed the incident yesterday.
The deceased’s body was taken to Concession District Hospital for a post-mortem while Muteyawonga was being held in police custody.
