Netball association to hold elections

In an interview from Harare yesterday, Zina president Leticia Chipandu said all positions are up for grabs.
“Our annual general meeting is going to be held here in Harare on 17 March and letters have already been sent to stakeholders who are supposed to attend the meeting. Apart from the reports, we are going to have our elections on that date,” Chipandu said.
The outgoing Zina executive is made up of Chipandu with Anderson Tembo being the vice-president while Barbra Rice is the secretary-general.
There are two organising secretaries that is Alex Masimba of the Northern Region and Tendai Mutamba Southern Region.
Moses Makuware is the treasurer with Agnes Chiroodza being the fixtures secretary.
The executive is expected to plan for the national team’s May trip to Tanzania where they will compete in a continental tournament.
Chipandu said the Tanzania competition would be used for rankings.
“We have been invited for a Netball Africa tournament that will run from 8-12 May in Tanzania. “This competition presents us an opportunity to make it for world rankings. At the moment Zimbabwe is third on African rankings behind South Africa and Malawi. We hope to do well at the competition so that we move up on the world rankings,” Chipandu said.
The Zina boss said the team that would represent the country in                 Tanzania would also participate at the Confederation of Southern Africa         Netball Association (Cosana) Senior Challenge set for August in                 Swaziland.
Chipandu is a member of the Cosana tournament’s organising                committee.
Meanwhile, the Super League season will start on the first weekend of          April.
The league welcomes back a Hwange Colliery Company sponsored team, Gaths Mine who have changed their name to Mashava United, Beta Holdings of Harare and Kwekwe’s Glow Petroleum.
Railstars are the defending champions.
“Just by looking at the teams that have joined us one can tell that                     Super League is spreading to almost all the corners of Zimbabwe. It is                   good to have Hwange back, Mashava United and Glow Petroleum of            Midlands. We are looking forward to a competitive 2012 season,” Chipandu        said.
