Netball standard is going up

THE standard of netball in Zimbabwe is on the way up.

This was said by the National Premier League (NPL) secretary-general, Liberty Mhira and national team coach Ropafadzo Mutsauki.

The two shared the same views after watching the explosive Bulawayo netball bubble games played at White City Stadium on Saturday.

PNL which is the major feeder of the national team is sponsored to the tune of US$ 50 000 by Nedbank Zimbabwe.

The deal caters for the teams’ kits and all league expenses throughout the season.

Mhira said he was happy with how the competition has progressed so far.

“This was our fifth bubble and we are pleased it went well. The level of competition was high with teams bringing their “A” game,” he said.

Mutsauki concurred with Mhira.

“It was a highly competitive netball meet. It also gave us an opportunity to have a look at some of the players we will have in the national team camp ahead of the World Cup,” said Mutsauki.

The netball World Cup will get underway on July 28 in Cape Town, South Africa.

Ngezi Platinum maintained pole position in the NPL after winning all three weekend encounters.

First out for the sword were Zupco who received a 64-8 hammering. They followed that up with wins against Harare City and Mvurwi respectively.

Harare City narrowly lost 20-28 while Mvurwi were outclassed as the match ended 60-20.
