ZIMBABWE’S future is poised to be shaped by the visionary leadership of President Mnangagwa and the steadfast determination of Zanu-PF.
The ruling party as a result of its constant grassroots engagement and internal restructuring, has set the stage for a resounding win in the forthcoming harmonised elections on August 23, Zanu-PF national commissar Cde Mike Bimha has said.
In an interview at the end of the week-long induction and orientation workshop for Zanu-PF aspiring legislators in Gweru over the weekend, Cde Bimha said elections are not just an event but a process of which the ruling party has been part of since the last election.
The orientation and induction workshop was spearheaded by the Herbert Chitepo School of Ideology.
Zanu-PF has during the workshop been explaining its core values and principles that will guide the party members’ election conduct and framing of campaign messaging.
Zanu-PF First Secretary, President Mnangagwa officially opened the workshop and underscored the need for unity of purpose among party cadres so that the party is assured of a landslide victory.
“As Zanu-PF we are poised for victory come August 23 elections. We are certain that President Mnangagwa will be re-elected and we will retain the majority. We are happy, ready and raring to go and reaffirm our position as the people’s party,” said Cde Bimha.
To show how serious the party is in terms of retaining power, he said the party underwent a restructuring exercise last year ahead of the National People’s Congress.
Cde Bimha said they are satisfied with how the restructuring exercise was conducted and the process ushered in new blood.
“Elections are not an event you know. For us, it has been a whole process from two years ago when we started building our structures in terms of putting together our provincial structures, establishing the Women’s League, structures from the district up to the national level, the same for the youths, the same for the war veterans, and as we went to do the Central Committee elections, the Congress and the primary elections, all these activities are part of the mobilisation strategy we have been implementing.
We are not starting campaigning now as it were because we started long back and as I said we are rearing to go,” said Cde Bimha.
He said the Government has done extremely well despite the illegal sanctions imposed by Britain and its allies.
“There has been progress and I think one indicator of the growth rate we are experiencing is the average growth rate in the region. We are far ahead of other countries in the region and yet we are the only country which is facing sanctions. Government has done extremely well under the circumstances and we owe that to President Mnangagwa and the Government.
“The party has also done extremely well making sure that structures are in place and mobilisation of party members has gone on well. So both the party and the Government have performed well,” said Cde Bimha.
