STATE-owned telecommunications provider NetOne on Saturday extended its festive season corporate social responsibility initiatives by visiting Khulu Anuloisa Banda, believed to be Zimbabwe’s oldest person at nearly 122 years, and bringing essential goods to over 60 families across Bulilima District.

The visit, launched at Khulu Banda’s homestead in Ntunungwe, is part of NetOne’s broader festive campaign covering Malalume and Nyele areas. The donated items included mealie meal, cooking oil, sugar, flour, tea leaves, salt, chunks, and sugar beans, ensuring that the joy of the season reaches even the most remote communities.

Deputy Minister of ICT, Postal and Courier Services, Honourable Dingumuzi Phuti, who was the guest of honour, expressed gratitude for NetOne’s initiatives, highlighting the importance of supporting elderly citizens and vulnerable communities.

“These gestures go a long way in building communities and bringing smiles to the less privileged. I would like to thank NetOne, led by Engineer Raphael Mushanawani, for such donations, particularly to the elderly people whose knowledge and teachings have guided society,” said Deputy Minister Phuti.

NetOne Group CEO Eng Raphael Mushanawani said the initiative reflects the company’s commitment to the spirit of Ubuntu, Oneness, and African culture.

“In that vein, NetOne is not just celebrating a national treasure, but also showing that true progress is measured not only in technological advancement but in social cohesion and compassion. By honouring the nation’s eldest citizen, we reinforce dignity, shared blessings, and collective care,” he said.

Local leaders and stakeholders, including former Bulilima East MP Cde Mathias Siqhoza Ndlovu and Headman Bidi, praised NetOne’s initiative and encouraged other organisations to follow the example of giving back to communities during the festive season.

The visit coincides with Khulu Banda’s upcoming 122nd birthday on December 12, making the event a historic and emotionally moving occasion for the family and local residents.
