TWO NetOne employees are in trouble after conniving with a well known hacker to try and steal from their employer.
The hacker, Blessing Tizirai Mudarikwa, who is at large, however, failed to access the pool account after being supplied with the log in credentials by his accomplices — Linda Mutemeri and Anotida Dee Munyaradzi.
Mutemeri is employed by NetOne as a brand officer and Munyaradzi is employed as a billing engineer.
NetOne is being represented in court by Takaitei Chitekwe, its Regional Loss Control Officer.
The court heard that between February and June last year, the duo connived with Mudarikwa, who is believed to be on the run, to hack the NetOne system and misappropriate funds.
Pursuant to the plan, the trio communicated through WhatsApp messages and held conference calls to discuss how to gain unauthorised access into the NetOne system.
It is the State’s case that Mutemeri and Munyaradzi shared confidential, sensitive and critical internal configurations of NetOne Cellular (Pvt) Ltd with Mudarikwa, and connected foreign computer machines onto the NetOne system enabling him to access and enter into the system.
He only failed to enter the pool account due to strong control mechanisms.
As a consequence of this unauthorised access, the financial resources of NetOne were potentially compromised and there was a likelihood of a huge potential prejudice.
