THE main sponsors for the Strongman Zimbabwe competition, NetOne, have finally honoured the winners of the event, which was held in May this year.
NetOne settled the outstanding prizes for the five Zambian winners.
Chido Maenzanise, of Zimbabwe, who came second, also got her prize.
The Zambians received their money last week. Zambia had five winners, including two women, and three men.
Partson Muzondiwa, the Strongman Association of Zambia president, said:
“We are excited with the way things are going and we want to thank the major sponsors, including NetOne, who came through with the cash prize.
“We look forward to working with them and taking this sport far.”
Strongman Association Zimbabwe president, Knox Musengi, hailed NetOne for fulfilling their pledge.
“We want to thank NetOne for honouring their pledge, this is a huge boost towards achieving what we want in this game.
“All the winners have received their cash prizes, including Zambians, and our own Chido Maenzanise.
“Despite the delay, we are excited and looking forward to working with them in our upcoming national event in a few months’ time.
“NetOne gave us cash, trophies, medals, branded T-shirts and what we used to hire the PA system.
“This is a sign that we have started now and we want to thank all the athletes who came to participate.”
Maenzanise also hailed the sponsors.
“This is a step forward and we look forward to getting more sponsors since this is also another area of employment.
“Some people are earning a living through this and if we get more sponsors we can do much better.”
