NetOne has partnered with the Postal and Telecommunications Regulatory Authority of Zimbabwe (Potraz) in hosting the Cyber Security Symposium set for today in Bulawayo. The symposium officially marks the end of National Cyber Security Awareness month, which ran under the theme, “Safe Surfing”.

The month-long awareness programme, a brainchild of the Ministry of Information Communication Technology and Courier Services ran under several weekly themes throughout Zimbabwe.

Major objectives were to promote online security and safety, cultivate a cyber-security culture among Internet stakeholders and unlock new opportunities for cyber security collaboration and information sharing. Of particular significance during the National Cyber Security Awareness month was the approval by Cabinet of the Cyber Crime, Security and Data Protection Bill.

Once passed into law, the Bill is expected to combat cyber crime and increase cyber security whilst complementing the SMART Zimbabwe 2030 initiative.

Safeguarding the national critical infrastructure, child online safety, cyber security in the workplace and emerging technologies were the cornerstone themes of the 2019 awareness month.

NetOne says its partnership with Potraz marks “yet another feat” for the development-oriented company, with impetus on transforming lives and developing communities throughout Zimbabwe.

The company’s executive director marketing communications Dr Eldrette Shereni told The Herald that 2019 has seen NetOne on an aggressive trajectory, making strides and receiving a number of accolades such as the Contact Centre Association of Zimbabwe (CCAZ) Service Excellence Award – Mobile Telecommunications Sector and recognition in the Potraz second quarter report as the only mobile network to record market share growth.

Dr Shereni said; “NetOne is leaving no stone unturned in their quest to reclaim market share. The company has had a vibrant 2019, with the results speaking for themselves.”

She added that NetOne has made the conscious decision to adopt a “back-to-basics approach premised on four key strategic pillars, namely: quality network, quality distribution, quality contact centre and a quality balance sheet”.
NetOne has embarked on a nationwide customer and staff appreciation tour, which began in Harare.

Said Dr Shereni; “Providing the best quality customer experience remains the lifeblood of our organisation, as the customer is and will always be king.

“It is for this reason that NetOne has embarked on a tour throughout Zimbabwe to thank not only our staff, but also customers.
“The school of thought is to cut like a double-edged sword by bringing our customers and staff closer.”
