MORE than five NetOne base stations and an Information Communication Centre will be commissioned in Nyanga this year as a way of promoting Information, Communication and Technology in the district.

Minister of Information, Communication and Technology, Postal and Courier Services Cde Supa Mandiwanzira said the ICT Centre would be established in Ruwangwe.

Speaking at belated Manicaland Provincial World Malaria Day commemorations at Emmanuel High School in Nyanga North recently, NetOne acting chief executive officer Mr Brian Mutandiro said they had conducted site surveys in more than five villages in Nyanga North where they would establish NetOne base stations.

“We finished site surveys in areas such as Fombe, Nyautare, Nyamaropa, Regina Coeli and Avila and we have mobilised resources to erect two towers in the next three months. We will start in Ruwangwe before we move to other areas,” he said.

Cde Mandiwanzira chipped in: “Besides Ruwangwe, we will mobilise more resources and make sure that more towers are erected in other areas such as Avila and Fombe. The other base stations will be established in Nyakomba and Nyamaropa.

“This will create employment to villagers in Nyanga and beyond.” Cde Mandiwanzira revealed that his ministry would mobilise funds to establish an ICT centre at Ruwangwe Business Centre.

He is on record as saying the ministry intends to come up with 100 ICT centres across the country. “We are determined to promote ICT across the country and Nyanga should not be left out. The world has embraced ICT as a means of doing bus- iness.

“Ruwangwe will have an ICT centre which will benefit communities, including schools, as they will have access to internet among other facilities. We are complementing President Mugabe’s efforts in promoting the use of ICTs especially in schools,” he added.

He handed over two laptops to Emmanuel High School pupils, Wadzanai and Luke Mutsiwawo.
