More than 130 war veterans serving the Harare City Council are set to receive full salaries and benefits after retirement.

In an interview with The Sunday Mail, the council’s head of corporate communications, Mr Stanley Gama, said: “About 130 war veterans who are serving council will continue to receive full monthly salary and benefits after retirement.”

He said this will be a token of appreciation to those who liberated the country.

“Our war veterans served our country during the war. Those who joined the City of Harare will be taken care of after retirement. We will grant them their salaries in full.

“This is a way of showing our gratitude and making sure that they won’t struggle in old age.”
