More than 2000 people were arrested in one day by police for not following coronavirus regulations.
Law enforcement agents are also still actively clamping down on machete gangs and unlicensed vehicles.
Police spokesperson Assistant Commissioner Paul Nyathi confirmed the arrests.
“The ZRP reports that on April 3, 2022, 2 017 people were arrested for Covid-19-related offences,” Assistant Commissioner Nyathi said.
“The cumulative number of arrests since March 30, 2020 stands at 1 628 267.
“Eighty-six people were arrested in the operation ‘No to Machete Gangs’. Cumulative arrests since January 1, 2022 stands at 14 637.”
He said 453 people were arrested in operation ‘No to Cross-Border Crimes’.
“The cumulative number of arrests since January 1, 2022 stands at 135 502.
“Meanwhile, 132 arrests were made under the ongoing operation targeting unlicensed and unregistered motor vehicles, bringing the cumulative arrests to 46 732.”
