NEW: 248 combine harvesters mobilised to expedite wheat harvesting

Government has mobilised 248 combine harvesters and fuel to expedite harvesting in view of the impending rains, a Cabinet Minister said.

Wheat farmers have presently harvested around 23 000 hectares of the crop, translating to 31 percent of the total planted area.

Addressing Tuesday’s post-Cabinet briefing, Information, Publicity and Broadcasting Services Minister Monica Mutsvangwa said: “Wheat stocks stand at 159 706 tonnes, and this will provide 6,3 months’ cover at a consumption rate of 21 000 tonnes per month.

“The cumulative harvested area of the 2022 winter wheat crop stands at 23 474 hectares, translating to 31 percent of the planted area.”
