A TOTAL of 25 small-scale entrepreneurs in Mutare District received basic training on operating their businesses in a move that is expected to grow their various projects.
The 25, who came from diverse business projects that include cookery, clothing, agriculture, engineering, manufacturing and retailing, had the opportunity to learn skills such as business expenditure and savings.
In an interview on the sidelines of the training programme, Mrs Rosemary Kaisi-Shumba, the Mutare District chairperson of the Chamber of SMEs said: “The thrust of the organisation is for business development for SMEs and we work in conjunction with the Ministry of Women Affairs, Community, Small and Medium Enterprises Development.
“Today, we partnered with Royal Business Consult Trust in trying to empower and capacitate our SMEs. We want to have SMEs that are able to deliver quality business products and services.
“We also want SMEs that are capable to account for their businesses. Our partner is an implanting agency for the International Labour Organisation. Most of the SMEs that we have are into hustling but we want them to transform to professional and serious business people.
“It is a fact that our economy is being driven by SMEs and if we have to develop to attain the goals of NDS 1 as well as Vision 2030 of being an upper middle income economy, we just have to ensure that our SMEs, as key players in the economy are, capacitated,” she said.
In a spate interview, Mr Enock Mumba, the Royal Business Consult Trust executive director, highlighted the importance of acquiring the professional skills of managing a business.
Last year, the Chamber of SMEs hosted a colourful graduation ceremony for entrepreneurs who morphed from small scale entrepreneurs into medium business operators as well as some from medium to corporates.
The Chamber of SMEs has a membership of 150 around Mutare District.
