NEW: 35 000 boreholes to cushion rural communities

The 35 000 boreholes that are being drilled by the Zimbabwe National Water Authority (ZINWA) will go a long way in reducing distances people living in rural communities travel to get potable water.

The boreholes are also expected to enable the envisaged Presidential Rural Horticulture Plan, which is expected to be launched soon.

“The idea is to leave no one behind and to significantly reduce the distances people travel to get water,” said ZINWA.

“The 35 000 boreholes ZINWA is drilling will also anchor the horticultural recovery plan.”

Almost 300 boreholes have been drilled so far this year to improve rural communities’ access to clean water and to help transform livelihoods through horticulture.
