THE Masvingo City Council is constructing a clinic at a cost of more than $600 000 in Runyararo West, a move that will improve the access to health services by residents.
City chief health officer Mr Kudakwashe Mapamula said the local authority was working hard to address gaps in the health delivery system and complement Government efforts to ensure people have access to quality health.
He said given the growing population, the three clinics in the city were failing to cope with the increase in the number of patients, hence the need to come up with new health facilities.
“The three clinics that we have, Rujeko, Runyararo and Mucheke are now overwhelmed. The number of residents has drastically increased and the available health facilities can no longer cope. Preliminary work on the construction have started ahead of the actual construction,” he said.
He said the new clinic would service the growing population in Runyararo West and Victoria Range suburbs.
Mr Mapamula said council was trying to rope in international partners who would also assist in the refurbishment of existing clinics.
Ward 3 Councillor Tarusenga Vembo, whose jurisdiction covers the area where the clinic is being built, said work was expected to be completed early next year.
