NEW: 87 die in festive season traffic accidents

ACCIDENTS during the festive season period between December 15-26 dropped to 1 194 from 1 480 during the same period last year, according to latest statistics from the Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP).

Road traffic accidents in the period similarly declined to 87 from 102 last year.

The number of fatal accidents also dropped to 60 from 71 last year.

“On Unity Day, December 22 2023, 125 road traffic accidents were recorded countrywide, of which five were fatal, with five people being killed while 24 others were injured,” said ZRP in a statement on Wednesday.

“On Christmas Day, December 25 2023, 71 road traffic accidents were recorded countrywide, of which seven were fatal, killing eight people and injuring 78.”
