NEW: A mouthwatering platinum derby on cards

THE 12th edition of the Platinum Derby between FC Platinum and Ngezi Platinum Stars will take place at Mandava Stadium on Saturday with a lot at stake, as both sides are fighting for the league title.

FC Platinum defeated Manica Diamonds 2-1 on Wednesday, while Ngezi edged Black Rhinos on the same day to open a six-point lead over second-placed Highlanders, who drew 1-1 against Sheasham at Barbourfields Stadium.

Madamburo are now on 51 points.

Defending champions FC Platinum are eight points behind Ngezi Platinum Stars going into the high-profile weekend clash.

A win for Madamburo will enhance chances of clinching their first-ever league championship.

Pure Platinum Play will reduce the gap between them and Ngezi to six points with a win.

The two sides have met five times in the league at Mandava since Ngezi Platinum Stars’ promotion in 2016.

Ngezi have one league win in Zvishavane against FC Platinum.

All in all, the two teams have clashed 11 times in the league since 2016.

FC Platinum have five wins, Ngezi have three, while the other three matches ended in draws.

Ngezi Platinum Stars won the reverse fixture 2-0 at Baobab Stadium in May.

FC Platinum, who are renowned strong finishers in the league race, are angling for a record-breaking fifth consecutive league title.
