SHEASHAM coach Lizwe Sweswe is hopeful his side will show the same fighting spirit in the remainder of the season as they did in the 1-1 Castle Lager Premier Soccer League draw against Highlanders at Barbourfields Stadium on Wednesday.
The PSL debutants forced Bosso to dig deep to salvage a point.
Midfielder David Mangesi gave the Gweru-based side a first-half lead before Stanley Ngala saved Highlanders some blushes with a late equaliser.
That valuable point earned in Bulawayo was good enough for Sheasham to remain outside the drop zone, as they sit 14th on the 18-team log table with 27 points.
Widely travelled coach Sweswe was delighted with the manner in which his charges applied themselves away from home and has demanded the same spirit in their remaining league assignments.
Sheasham are fighting to preserve their Premiership status.
“At this stage of the season, every point counts,” Sweswe told The Sunday Mail Online.
“That draw against Highlanders is a plus in our fight for survival. Bosso are title contenders and my boys showed great character to get a point in that match.
“That character is what I wish and pray that we have in the next matches, if we want to survive relegation this season.”
Sheasham’s biggest undoing has been their lack of consistency.
With as many as eight teams involved in the relegation matrix, Sweswe knows that they are not yet out of the woods.
Sheasham will now host fellow strugglers Bulawayo Chiefs at Bata Stadium on Sunday.
Chiefs are the team Sweswe was coaching before he crossed the floor to Sheasham.
“Games are coming thick and fast with less recovery, so what is important is for us to manage the load that comes with playing two games so close to each other,” he said.
“We have to approach this match with zeal and positivity of collecting maximum points since we are at home.”
