YESTERYEAR hip-hop band A Peace of Ebony will on Valentine’s Day release a love song titled “Tryna.”

Formed in Harare in 1991, the band is one of the pioneers of local hip-hop.

Herbert Schwamborn (Prince Qwela), Tony Chihota (Chief), Chiwoniso Maraire (Chi) and Keith Farquharson were the founding members of the group.

Following the death of Chiwoniso in 2013, her daughter Chengeto Brown stepped into her shoes and has been working with the ensemble on a part-time basis.

Tony Chihota, who is affectionately known as “Chief” in the arts industry, said contrary to some media reports, which alleged that the musical outfit had disbanded, A Peace of Ebony is still alive.

“The band is still as intact as it was during the early years.

“After ‘Tryna’, which is a love song, we are going to release a number of singles throughout the year,” he said.

The video for the new song, which was produced by prominent filmmaker Tomas Brickhill, has already been shot and edited.
