JOURNALISTS have been urged to abide by Zimbabwe’s laws for them to enjoy the freedom of Press enshrined in the country’s Constitution.
Speaking at the Zimbabwe Community News Awards held in Harare last week on Friday, Information, Publicity and Broadcasting Services Deputy Minister, Honourable Kindness Paradza, who was the guest of honour, said the Second Republic prioritises jpurnalists’s safety.
“You have to abide by our national laws for you to enjoy the freedom of the Press as enshrined in our Constitution. Zimbabwe, under the Second Republic, has made the safety of journalists an issue of high priority.
“We do not condone any acts of violence against journalists. Our hope as Government is that the more media channels we have, the more platforms are created for marketing your brands locally and globally. We all know that, with the advent of the digital era, the practice of journalism has shifted drastically, but its importance has not diminished,” he said.
A number of popular people and organisations from Manicaland were honoured with various gongs, the likes of Brian Samaita, Rutendo Jackie, Mutare City Council, Dorcas Moyo, Hosiah Chipanga.
Samaita won the Veteran Band member award, while Jackie won the outstanding traditional instruments song.
The Manica Post’s Liberty Dube won the outstanding journalist reporting on community news and philanthropy.
