NEW: Acting Chief Makumbe dies in car crash

ACTING Chief Makumbe of Buhera, born Takudzwa Paul Chengeta, has died after the vehicle he was driving was involved a fatal accident on Wednesday.

The traditional leader’s vehicle collided head-on with a Gold Class buss on the 86km peg along the Harare-Mutare highway.

His body was taken to Marondera Provincial Hospital mortuary.

A passenger in the car sustained injuries and was also rushed to the same hospital.

National police spokesperson Commissioner Paul Nyathi confirmed the accident but could not give more details.

“A local chief has died in an accident. We will be releasing more details in due course,” he said.
