A new company aiming to revolutionise outdoor tourism and extreme sport in Zimbabwe has officially opened its doors.
Adventure Sports (Pvt) Limited, founded this year, plans to establish the country as a regional hub for high-end adventure racing and outdoor endurance events.
Headquartered in Bulawayo and Harare with offices in all 10 provinces, the company is the brainchild of a team of Zimbabwean professionals with experience in sports media, event management, finance, and tourism.
Its mission is to develop a robust adventure sports ecosystem in Zimbabwe, while promoting sustainable tourism and community engagement.
Adventure Sports (Pvt) Limited enters the market at a time when global interest in eco-tourism and endurance sports is on the rise. Zimbabwe, with its diverse landscapes ranging from the majestic Victoria Falls to the granite hills of Matobo and the sprawling wilderness of Hwange, offers a natural backdrop for a variety of adventure-based activities.
“We want to create world-class experiences that not only thrill athletes and spectators but also stimulate local economies and shine a light on Zimbabwe’s untapped potential,” said Simba Jemwa, a seasoned sports journalist and one of the co-founders.
The company’s flagship events include the Zimbabwe Wilderness Adventure Race (Zi-WAR), a multi-discipline challenge combining canoeing, mountain biking and trail running through national parks, and the Matobo
Adventure Challenge, a high-octane race through the country’s oldest UNESCO World Heritage Site.
Adventure Sports (Pvt) Limited has also unveiled plans to host regional qualifiers, endurance camps, and an international adventure sports expo. The firm intends to partner with conservation bodies, tourism authorities, and international sporting federations to ensure its events meet global standards.
The launch is seen as a potential game-changer for Zimbabwe’s adventure tourism sector, which has long remained underdeveloped despite the country’s rich natural assets. The company is also eyeing partnerships with broadcasters to bring live coverage of its events to a global audience.
As Africa builds a reputation as a destination for elite outdoor sport, Zimbabwe’s entry into the arena via Adventure Sports (Pvt) Limited could position the country as a serious contender in the global adventure tourism market.
