THE negative impact and adversity brought about by the illegal sanctions imposed on Zimbabwe by the West can be overcome through innovation and agricultural productivity, Mutasa South legislator Cde Misheck Mugadza has said.
Speaking on the sidelines of a recent field day at Ms Elizabeth Chipangura’s farm in Ward 23, Old Mutare, Cde Mugadza said agricultural productivity can mitigate the effects of sanctions as it enhances food security and nutrition as well as improve household livelihoods.
He hailed Government for implementing various programmes to drive the the country’s agricultural revolution in line with Vision 2030.
“The agricultural sector can play a pivotal role in busting the illegal sanctions imposed on Zimbabwe to make the people suffer. Various programmes being run by Government like the livestock scheme, tick greae blitz, rural poultry scheme and goat pass-on scheme can be great economic enablers that lead to the country’s transformation.
“Under President Mnangagwa’s visionary leadership, we can overcome the adversity caused by the sanctions through agricultural innovation and productivity. This season’s winter wheat bumper harvest is testimony of the effectiveness of the programmes and how food self sufficiency and profitability of our agricultural enterprises can help ease the burden of the sanctions on our people,” said Cde Mugadza.
He said he will spearhead more programmes in Mutasa South that will leave no place and no person behind.
Meanwhile, this year’s SADC Anti-Sanctions Day solidarity commemorations will be held next week Tuesday under the theme “Friend to All, Enemy to None: Forging Ahead and Enhancing Innovation and Productivity in Adversity of Sanctions.”
