THE second edition of the CABS Candidates Chess Tournament will be held in Bulawayo this weekend.

Over 100 participants have already registered for this International Chess Federation-rated tournament, which will take place on Saturday.

It will feature three categories — the open section, ladies’ section and development (Under-16) category — to ensure an inclusive and diverse playing field.

Candidates for the Zimbabwe National Chess Championships are expected to emerge from the tournament.

The Zimbabwe Chess Federation (ZCF) secretary-general, Todd Mapingire, said: “The CABS Candidates Chess Tournament is one of the key national chess competitions on the ZCF calendar.

“We are thrilled to witness the convergence of Zimbabwe’s finest chess players in this highly competitive environment.”
