NEW: All set for crucial ZIFA indaba

ALL is now set for Saturday’s watershed consultative meeting for ZIFA members in Harare, an indaba that could shape the future of the game.

The indaba comes in the wake of the recent suspension of the country from international football by FIFA.

Northern Region chairman, Martin Kweza, who has been tasked with coordinating the indaba told The Sunday Mail that all is in place.

The indaba is an initiative of the members who are bankrolling it, contrary to claims made to FIFA by some members of Felton Kamambo’s suspended board that Government had convened the indaba through the Sports and Recreation Commission (SRC).

“Yes, the consultative meeting is on in Harare. We are definitely meeting this Saturday,” Kweza told The Sunday Mail Sport Thursday afternoon.

He indicated that the meeting is a precursor to the ZIFA Assembly Extraordinary General Meeting (EGM), which has been tentatively set for April 23.

However, the focus at the moment is on Saturday’s consultative meeting at which some legal experts have been roped in to take the members through the legalities of the upcoming EGM.

It is the first time that the Congress, domestic football’s parliament, is meeting to brainstorm in the wake of the FIFA ban.

Part of the agenda of Saturday’s indaba include looking at the constitutional obligations and powers of the Congress as well as the duties, obligations and powers of the executive committee, which is commonly referred to as the board.

The meeting will also table the suspension of Kamambo’s board by the SRC.

Kamambo and his crew were suspended on November 16, 2021 triggering a tiff between FIFA and the SRC, with the world soccer governing body citing the local sport regulatory body’s action as third-party interference.

The consultative meeting is also expected to do an overview of the state of football for both men and women leagues.

Kweza said he was expecting a full house at the indaba as councillors have an obligation as leaders to map the route, which the local game will take.
