THE National Gallery will, on October 5, hold its annual exhibition which attracts participants from far and wide.
The exhibition comes at a time when the gallery recently held an arts journalist’s training workshop in conjunction with Zimbabwe Newspapers (1980) Limited (Zimpapers).
National Gallery executive director Mr Raphael Chikukwa said everything is now in place for the exhibition.
“After months of meticulous planning, I am happy to say that everything is now in place,” he said.
Meanwhile, Mr Chikukwa encouraged more journalists to become arts writers.
“Local journalists are still behind when it comes to writing about the arts.
“I was recently in Slovakia where I was pleasantly surprised to read about Zimbabwean art in a library.”
Zimpapers group chief executive officer Mr Pikirayi Deketeke also spoke about the need for more journalists to specialise in arts reporting.
“Just like any other beats, the arts reporting beat must also be taken seriously.
“It is sad to note that local journalists are not as eager as their foreign counterparts when it comes to arts reporting,” Mr Deketeke said.
