AUSTRALIA-based author and motivational speaker Chido Taruvinga recently scooped a bronze medal at the 2023 Women Changing the World Awards.

Taruvinga becomes the latest Zimbabwean female author to win the award after Chido Nyamoto and Dr Patricia Gonde.

She authored the book, “The Art of Determination” which helped her win a bronze medal in the Women in Literature category.

Founded by Dr Tererai Trent, the Women Changing the World Awards celebrate and recognise women achieving outstanding success in areas such as sustainability, humanitarian work, leadership and advocacy.

Speaking to The Sunday Mail Online, Ms Taruvinga said she is inspired by a need to empower other women and girls.

“It inspires, educates and empowers women and girls to be confident about who they are, to leverage in business and entrepreneurship and to continue educating themselves,’’ she said.

“The book has an impact on women from all walks of life as it inspires, empowers and educates women on serious issues.

“It is eye-opening in every angle of life, whether you are living in your home country Zimbabwe or living abroad.”

The biggest challenge for women, Taruvinga said, is the attitude towards women.

“Men have the ideologies that women are less capable, hence it is important to educate and prove to them that ‘yes we can’,” she said.

“These ideas have been planted from long back but now it is high time for everyone to work on change, change of ideas, change of attitudes and change of approach.

“Bias towards women is the biggest enemy.”
