A delegation from the African Peer Review Mechanism( APRM) has praised the Second Republic for successfully courting investment in renewable energy to engender socio-economic transformation in line with Vision 2030.

The delegation praised President Mnangagwa for initiating steps towards clean energy after touring the 5MW hydro power plant built by Great Zimbabwe Hydro Power Company at Lake Mutirikwi.

Lake Mutirikwi is Zimbabwe’s second largest inland dam and the hydro power plant was completed in November last year, coasting US$14,6 million.

The APRM delegation was led by Dr Rachel Mukamunana, who was representing Ambassador Aly El-Hefny, the chairperson of the APRM panel of eminent persons and panel member in charge of Zimbabwe.

Speaking during the tour, Dr Mukamunana praised the engineering ingenuity in building the plant to generate power while simultaneously supplying irrigation water to low veld sugar cane plantations.

APRM International Consultant Mr Samuel Njoroge praised President Mnangagwa and his Government for harnessing clean energy to ensure sustainable development through reliable power supply.

Great Zimbabwe Hydro Power Company Site Manager Engineer Austin Chiboora told the delegation that the power plant was built using local expertise and capital in line with President Mnangagwa’s mantra of “a country is developed by its citizens.”
