SIX gun-wielding robbers last week on Saturday pounced on Raven Service Station situated along Mutare-Chimanimani Highway, before assaulting a security guard and a petrol attendant and stealing US$2 500.

The incident happened hardly a week after eight gun-toting robbers pounced on Energy Park Service Station in Nyakamete Industrial Area and escaped with an undisclosed amount of money.

Manicaland provincial police spokesperson, Inspector Norbert Muzondo confirmed the incident which happened at 1am.

Six robbers who were armed with rifles, a hammer, a knife and wooden logs approached a fuel attendant, Tawanda Zvabvirepi (32) and a security guard, Kiven Shamhu and tied them with ropes.

“They forced them to lie down on their stomachs. They searched the office and took a cash box which had US$2 500. They assaulted the two with switches and open hands. They broke the shop’s back door and took away some groceries before vanishing from the scene,” said Inspector Muzondo.

In another incident, eight gun-toting robbers recently pounced on Energy Park Service Station in Nyakamete Industrial Area, but had their mission foiled after security reinforcement and police reacted swiftly which led the eight to retreat into the dark.

The robbers, however, managed to escape with an undisclosed amount of money.

The robbers entered into the premises and overpowered the security personnel who were on duty.

However, the security company was alerted.

The company’s general manager, Tatenda Mariga and their transporter Brian Samaita called police who reacted swiftly.

The robbers vanished into the dark.
