MOUNTAINEERS will have to wait a bit longer to begin their title defence of the Pro50 Championship when the domestic cricket season gets underway on October 1.
The reigning Pro50 Champions have received a bye during the opening round of the 2022/2023 Zimbabwe Cricket domestic season.
They will only start their provincial one-day campaign on October 7 when they travel to the Midlands Province for a date against Rhinos at Kwekwe Sports Club.
The opening round of festivities sees Alliance Health Eagles play host to Bulawayo-based franchise Tuskers at the Harare Sports Club, while Southern Rocks host Rhinos at Masvingo Sports Club on Saturday.
The same sides will then face each other again on Monday at the same venues.
After their match against Rhinos on October 7, Mountaineers will play the Kwekwe-based side again on October 10.
During the period, Tuskers will also be entertaining Rocks at Queens Sports Club.
The Pro50 Championship will be played in a round-robin format and run until October 30.
Thereafter, the top two franchises clash in the final on November 5.
Upon the completion of the Pro50 Championship, the regional series is expected to take centre stage and will see Northerns meet Southerns in three 50-over matches between November 9 and November 12.
After completion of the one-day games, the Logan Cup will then get underway, with the first fixtures in the first-class competition scheduled for November 22 to November 25.
