PROPERTY developer West Properties has unveiled new benches in Greenwood Park as part of its corporate responsibility programme.
Earlier this year, the company made a commitment to spruce up and furnish the park.
This is in addition to the rehabilitation of the existing play centre for children.
WestProp chose to carry out the cleaning in the park for the rest of 2023 and, in the process, resource the park with benches, a slate for traditional games like pada, nhodo and draft. Speaking during the clean-up campaign, West Properties acting chief investment officer, Tatiana Sharpe, said rehabilitating Greenwood Park was part of their company’s social responsibility.
“As WestProp we are doing our part in our country and community to clean up because we want to be able to live in a cleaner environment,” she said.
“The next step will be to recycle the plastics and ultimately we want to stop producing plastics.
“I am really proud of the whole team, the community members and social workers who are taking their part in cleaning this park so that we, as the citizens, can be able to enjoy the cleanliness of Greenwood Park.”
Sharpe added:
“Our action here may be small but we are definitely driving the message home and having a great impact, not only for our company, community or country but for the whole world.”
WestProp public relations manager, Michael Chideme, indicated that as of now, seven benches have been installed in the park and more were coming.
“We made a commitment early this year that as a company we are going to resource Greenwood Park.
“The resourcing that we meant was putting back or buying new benches which are more resilient, stronger and cannot be shifted from one place to another.
“We are also rehabilitating the borehole, we have received the quotation for the borehole and the irrigation system for the park.
“We want the park to resonate with our mantra of bringing Dubai to Zimbabwe and the city’s vision of a world class city by 2025.
“So far, we have put seven benches and we are putting more, we are still getting numbers from the city authorities with regards to the total number of benches they want in each section of the park.”
City Council’s chief parks and cemetery officer, Godfrey Batsirai Munetsi, paid gratitude to WestProp and urged companies to come on board and help beautify the city.
