NEW: Beware of bogus travel agents – ZTA

Online Reporter

Travellers have been urged to be wary of unregistered travel agents and tourist facilities.

Of late, there has been a proliferation of tour companies seeking to capitalise on increased travel enthusiasm in the country.

In a statement on Tuesday, the Zimbabwe Tourism Authority (ZTA) said hotel and resorts are supposed to deal with registered entities.

“It has come to the attention of the Zimbabwe Tourism Authority that there are some unregistered facilities and agents promoting various tours and services, including online through various social media platforms.

“The Zimbabwe Tourism Authority wishes to advise that, in terms of the Tourism Act of 1996 Chapter (14:20), all designated tourist facilities should be registered with the Zimbabwe Tourism Authority,” reads the statement.

“Members of the public are urged not to patronise or use services of unregistered tourist facilities as this may compromise their safety and security.”

Tourism players who continue to pay licensing fees to authorities like ZTA and the Zimbabwe Revenue Authority (Zimra) have been crying foul over unfair competition.
