NEW: Big opportunity for grassroots football

FORMER Black Rhinos Juniors team manager, Chris Chipembere, might have received an opportunity of a lifetime, after he was recently approved to attend a UEFA coaching course that will take place in Belfast, Northern Ireland in April.

The UEFA C Diploma course is aimed at improving the teaching and coaching expertise of grassroots coaches.

With Zimbabwean football crying out for the revival of junior structures and competition, Chipembere could become a vital cog in the system, should he attain the qualification.

The course covers topics such as child safeguarding in football, philosophy, teaching methodology, art of coaching, psychological and physiological development as well as sport and nutrition.

“I believe this course will be beneficial to our football development as grassroots is the answer to the failures of our national teams,” said Chipembere.

“We need to have a vibrant grassroots development program,” said the former Black Rhinos technical staffer.

Chipembere is also a holder of the England Football Coaching Diploma, which he obtained in Newport.

He now wants to add the UEFA C Diploma, which according to the European football governing body, has a major impact on the quality of grassroots football.

Sadly, time could be running out for Chipembere, who has to raise about US$2 500 by April 8, for him to be admitted.

“I have to pay US$2 340 to cover course fees and accommodation before the deadline, which is April 8,” said Chipembere.

“I also need return airfares which costs about US$1 600. As a result, I am appealing to well-wishers and the corporate world to assist me in meeting the expenses,” he said.
