New boards for Byo hospitals unveiled

Health and Child Care Minister Dr David Parirenyatwa last week unveiled new boards for Mpilo, Ingutsheni and United Bulawayo Hospitals, all in Bulawayo.
The new Mpilo Central Hospital board is chaired by Sichelesile Ncube; the director of information at EATC Group of Colleges in Bulawayo and includes Dr Goodness Msimanga, Siqokoqela Mphoko, Engineer Hudson Hlabangana, Prince Kunaka, Dr Nomathemba Ndiweni and the hospital’s chief executive officer, Dr Lawrence Mantiziba.

Sandra Gumbo, an official at Zimplow in Bulawayo, chairs the new Ingutsheni Hospital board and other members include High Court judge Justice Lawrence Kamocha, Cynthia Chasokela, Earnest Shora, Cephas Mweyamweya and the institution’s chief executive officer, Leonard Mabhande.

The new UBH board is made up of chairman Francis Chitehwe, a corporate insurance broker, Kudakwashe Mutsindi, Sakhile Sibanda, Netsai Matienga, Dr Chad Tarumbwa and the hospital’s chief executive officer, Nonhlanhla Ndlovu.

Dr Parirenyatwa said the board members were selected carefully and strategically taking into consideration gender and different skills and expertise to improve service delivery and administration services at the three institutions.

He called on the new boards to assist in administering and mobilising resources for their respective hospitals, which are facing various challenges, chief among them financial constraints.

“These three hospitals are very important to the country as far as health issues are concerned,” said Dr Parirenyatwa. “I am proud to announce that the three hospitals have new boards that will work towards improving the health delivery system in the country. “

Dr Parirenyatwa said the main purpose of the boards was to administer the Health Services Fund (HSF), sourcing funds for the institutions, enforcing Government policies as well as borrowing money as may be approved by the minister.

He tasked the Mpilo board to prioritise the resuscitation of the cancer screening department.
, while the Ingutsheni board was urged to work towards the improvement of its staff complement.
