NEW: Bollywood actor acquires local T10 franchise

Online Reporter

Legendary Bollywood actor Sanjay Dutt has acquired one of the five franchises that will take part in the inaugural edition of the Zim Afro T10 tournament next month.

Dutt will co-own the Harare Hurricanes franchise, along with Sir Sohan Roy, who is the founder, chairperson and CEO of Aries Group of Companies.

Five franchises – Durban Qalandars, Cape Town Samp Army, Bulawayo Braves, Joburg Lions and the Hurricanes – will battle for honours at the historic tournament, which is slated for July 20 to 29 at Harare Sports Club.

Festivities, however, begin earlier, as a player auction has been slated for July 1.

Commenting on the development, Zimbabwe Cricket (ZC) managing director Givemore Makoni said: “To see some of the biggest names in the entertainment industry throw their weight behind the Zim Afro T10 gives me immense pleasure, and tells me that the tournament is being well-received.

“Now, all that is left is that the Harare Hurricanes put in a brilliant showing in the tournament next month.

“Cricket is like a religion in India, and as one of the biggest nations in the sport, I feel it is our duty to take the game to every corner of the world.”

Dutt is a household name in Hindi cinema.

In a career spanning over four decades, he has won several accolades and starred in over 100 films, ranging from romance to comedy genres.
