Renowned author Henrik Ellert is expected to launch his book titled “Mocambique Mosaic” today at the Gallery Delta. The book launch will be officially opened by the renowned international sculptor and jeweller Patrick Mavros.
Ellert said he is excited to be launching his book in this country, where he stayed before.
“It is a great experience for me to launch my book here since l love this country and I have some people who enjoy reading my books, he said.
His publication includes a study of all manner of Mozambican crafts.
“It includes vessels for food and drink, pottery, pipes, basketry, stools, miscellaneous household objects, clothing and adornments, spears, bows and arrows, swords, dancing weapons and musical instruments.
“The book also looks at the level of technology applied in various forms of occupations and the interaction between the indigenous people of Mozambique and how they have been able to absorb foreign influences.”
The story spans several millennia and shows how traditional practices and crafts persist right through to the modern day.
Ethnographic and historical researcher and writer Ellert was born in Denmark but grew up in Kenya, Tanzania, Zambia and Zimbabwe.
He was educated in Zimbabwe, Denmark and Portugal – and now divides his time between both Denmark and Southern Africa.
Ellert maintains his long and abiding interest in African art and ethnography and this can be shown in his vast and well researched books.
He applies a special understanding of ethnography to his work as a business consultant for private sector development in Southern Africa.
