IN a major boost, Chengetai Special School stationed in Chikanga last week received foodstuffs worth hundreds of dollars from tourism and accommodation facility, Holiday Inn Mutare.

The school, which is the only special school in Manicaland Province, has been facing a myriad of challenges, chief among them shortage of food to feed the learners.

The hotel also conducted a clean-up campaign at the school last week on Wednesday before handing over foodstuffs such as potatoes, sugar, maize meal, chicken, beef and peanut butter as well as cleaning detergents.

Holiday Inn general manager, Mr Nkosi Moyo said: “This undertaking is great, exciting and glorious as well, as it has influence on our Sustainable Development Goals in particular, Zero Hunger which focuses on making sure that at least all children have sufficient and nutritious food. The African Sun CER programme encompasses the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals whose focus is mobilising efforts to end poverty and create a life of dignity and opportunity for all by 2030.”

Mutare District Schools Inspector, Mr Edson Mapungwana appreciated the gesture, saying: “The school has been facing food challenges which has occasionally led to early closure as they will be no food to feed them. This is a great gesture and we are grateful.”
