THE Castle Lager Premier Soccer League will have a fresh look in the 2027 season following the promotion of Blanket Mine, Yadah and Hwange, who have secured their places in the country’s top-flight competition.

Blanket Mine, under the guidance of Luke Petros Jukulile, won the Central Region Soccer League championship, while Hwange clinched the Southern Region title. Yadah emerged champions of the Eastern Region.

The MCM Estates Northern Region Soccer League championship was still to be decided, with Black Rhinos and Harare City locked in a nail-biting battle for the remaining promotion ticket.

The three promoted sides earned their places in the country’s top flight after impressive campaigns in their respective regions. Although they took different routes to the promised land, they share one ambition: to make their presence felt among the country’s football elite.

Of the three, Blanket Mine arguably enjoyed the most remarkable campaign, securing promotion from the Central Region Soccer League without suffering a single defeat.

The Gwanda-based outfit sealed promotion after drawing 1-1 with Kwekwe United, a result that also confirmed them as champions with a match to spare.

The draw extended Blanket Mine’s unbeaten run to 33 matches and took their points tally to an unassailable 79, giving them a five-point advantage over second-placed Kwekwe United.

The club also made history by becoming the first-ever team from Gwanda District in Matabeleland South to reach Zimbabwe’s top-flight football league.

The achievement marked the third time Jukulile has guided a team to PSL promotion, following his previous successes with WhaWha FC.

Blanket Mine’s campaign was characterised by consistency, determination and resilience, qualities that carried them to the championship and an impressive unbeaten record.

Going through an entire season without losing a match is no mean feat, particularly in the demanding environment of regional football, where the battle for promotion presents numerous challenges.

For Blanket Mine, however, promotion is only the beginning, with the club now facing the task of strengthening its squad and raising its competitive standards to meet the demands of top-flight football.

Hwange also secured promotion after being crowned champions of the 2026 Pacific Breeze Southern Region Soccer League.

Chipangano sealed the title with a 1-0 victory over Bulawayo Warriors, taking their points tally to an unassailable 76 and putting them beyond the reach of second-placed Talen Vision, who finished on 72 points.

The promotion marks Hwange’s swift return to the Premier Soccer League following their relegation in November 2024.

The coal-mining town has a proud football tradition, and Chipangano’s return restores a familiar name to the country’s top-flight competition. Their promotion is also significant for football in

Matabeleland North, which will once again have representation in the country’s premier league through the coal miners.

For Hwange, the immediate priority will be to assemble a competitive squad capable of holding its own against more established Premier Soccer League sides.

Yadah, meanwhile, have wasted little time in securing their return to the elite league after winning the 2026 Pacific Storm Eastern Region Soccer League title.

The Miracle Boys clinched the championship with a match to spare following a 2-1 victory over Masvingo United at Heart Stadium.

The victory took their points tally to an unassailable 79, putting them ahead of second-placed Deportivo La Murambinda, who finished on 77 points.

Coached by Kudakwashe Masaraure and bankrolled by Prophet Walter Magaya, Yadah have secured an immediate return to the top flight following their relegation last season.

Their quick comeback will be a welcome development for the club, which will be eager to re-establish itself among the country’s leading football sides.

Having regained their top-flight status on their first attempt, Yadah will hope to draw on their previous PSL experience as they prepare for another opportunity to compete at the highest level.

The three promoted clubs will now turn their attention to preparations for the new season, knowing that winning promotion and surviving in the top flight are two entirely different challenges.

Blanket Mine will arrive with the confidence of an unbeaten campaign, Yadah with the momentum of an immediate return and previous PSL experience, while Hwange will be banking on their rich football tradition as they prepare for life among the country’s elite.

Their arrival promises to inject fresh competition and new storylines into the Premier Soccer League, with all three clubs determined to make their promotion count and establish themselves in the country’s top-flight football.
