THREE suspected armed robbers who were arrested on allegations of fatally shooting a Bulawayo police officer as he attended to a crime scene in Tshabalala suburb are facing murder and 50 robbery charges.
Two of their accomplices, Sipho Ncube (24) and Dumisani Ndlovu (32), were recently fatally shot after they tried to evade arrest, resulting in a shoot-out with police detectives along Harrow Street, Sauerstown, in Bulawayo last Sunday.
The pair died on admission to United Bulawayo Hospitals from gunshot wounds sustained in the shoot-out with police.
In a statement, police spokesperson Commissioner Paul Nyathi confirmed the latest developments.
“Reference is made to the Zimbabwe Republic Police’s press statements released on March 28, 2025 and April 2, 2025 regarding the fatal shooting of a police officer, Sergeant Abel Masava, in Sizinda, Bulawayo and the subsequent arrest of Albert Munangati aged 26, Clifford Desmond Nare aged 33 and Thabo Dube aged 24 in connection with the murder case,” he said.
“The suspects are further being linked to 25 other armed robbery cases which occurred between March 12, 2024 and March 28, 2025, in and around Bulawayo.
“In total, the suspects are facing 50 armed robbery cases, including a case which occurred on April 10, 2024, at Fundisi Mine, Umuguza, where US$2 704 cash was stolen after the complainant had been attacked by the suspects who were armed with pistols, knives and wooden sticks.”
He said they are also facing another robbery charge, which occurred on March 15, 2025, at a fuel service station in Cowdray Park, Bulawayo, where R186 000 was stolen.
“The public is urged to continue providing information on the National Complaints Desk on (0242) 703631 or WhatsApp on 0712 800 197 or report at any nearest police station.
“The Zimbabwe Republic Police reiterates that there is no going back in the fight against armed robbery cases in the country,” Comm Nyathi said.
