NEW: Bus collides with fuel tanker near Mutare – reports

Many people are feared dead after a bus collided with a fuel tanker, before bursting into flames 20 kilometres outside Mutare this Friday evening.

The ZBC arrived at the scene at Matongo area along the Mutare – Harare Highway soon after the accident and found the bus in flames.

Eye witneses say the bus belonging to Beta buses that was coming from Harare encroached on the other lane, resulting in the the collision with the tanker that was coming from the opposite direction.

The eye witnesses added that they managed to rescue about seven people, before flames engulfed the whole area, burning all the people who had been trapped in both the bus and tanker.

There are indications that forensic identification of victims could be required, as some people may have been burnt beyond recognition.

The Zimbabwe Republic Police is yet to comment. – ZBC
