THOUSANDS of young people are expected to gather in Mazowe, Mashonaland Central province, on Sunday for a car rally organised by the ZANU PF Mashonaland Central Youth League and an affiliate Boys Dzamdara, as part of Munhumutapa Day commemorations marking President Mnangagwa’s 84th birthday on September 15.
The main Munhumutapa Day celebrations will be held in Mvurwi, Mashonaland Central.
The commemorations rotate among provinces and attract thousands of people who gather to commemorate President Mnangagwa’s birthday while celebrating Zimbabwe’s heritage and development aspirations.
The event was first held in Masvingo in 2024, then moved to Zvishavane in the Midlands province last year.
This year’s car rally is expected to attract participants from across the country.
Preparations for the celebrations will also feature youth sporting tournaments, community empowerment showcases and birthday activities for the President.
Young people will exhibit various projects, including business ventures, livestock initiatives and farm mechanisation programmes.
Boys Dzamdara national chairperson Cde Hopewell Chako said preparations for the Munhumutapa Day would begin with the car rally in Mazowe district, after which chicks and piglets would be distributed to youths in the district.
“The move aligns with the Government’s commitment to support youth programmes,” he said.
President Mnangagwa’s support, Cde Chako said, had enabled the organisation to roll out projects such as piggery, sewing, fencing and poultry initiatives across all the country’s 10 provinces.
“We pledge to continue building our country together, guided by his leaving no one and no place behind to achieve an upper middle-class economy by 2030,” he said.
Cde Chako underscored the broader impact of youth empowerment initiatives on national development.
“The Presidential Youth Fund has given young Zimbabweans hope and opportunity. When young people are empowered, the whole nation moves closer to Vision 2030,” he said.
The event is expected to be joined by Mazowe North legislator Cde Tsungai Makumbe and other provincial leaders, highlighting the significance of the car rally in mobilising youth and reinforcing national pride.
Cde Chako said the distribution of 500 chicks to youths in Mashonaland Central demonstrated that empowerment begins with practical support, with young people remaining a key pillar of national development.
