As part of an ongoing countrywide exercise dubbed “Operation Nyama Yabvepi”, which is aimed at ending cattle rustling, inspectors from the Ministry of Lands, Agriculture, Fisheries, Water and Rural Development will visit butcheries to find out where they are sourcing their meat.
In an interview with The Sunday Mail Online, Lands, Agriculture, Fisheries, Water and Rural Development Permanent Secretary Dr John Basera said: “All meat must be from registered abattoirs, and there are going to be inspections in each and every butchery.”
He said the Department of Livestock and Veterinary Services together with the Zimbabwe Republic Police will carry out the operation.
Members of the public were also urged to report any suspicious animal movements.
