GOVERNMENT has donated computers to five high schools in Chipinge District as it forges ahead with the thrust to equip learners with technological skills requisite for the fourth industrial revolution, which is shaping lives globally.

The beneficiary schools include Marirangwe, Chipinge, Gideon Mhalanga, Rimbi and Mutema high schools.

Addressing villagers and learners as he handed over the computers to the five schools recently, Information and Communications Technology, Postal and Courier Services Minister, Dr Jenfan Muswere, said the thrust by President Mnangagwa’s Government is to bridge the digital divide between urban and rural schools by equipping learners to be fit for the fourth industrial revolution.

“We are going ahead with the plan to have all schools around the country, including those in marginalised areas, to have internet connection as well as the gadgets needed.

“This is what the President has sent us here to do as he has remained consistent with the mantra that no place and no person must be left behind in this development drive,” he said.

Postal and Telecommunication Regulatory Authority Director General, Dr Gift Machengete, said the programme is not only targeting schools, but meant to ensure that ICT gadgets are distributed to all sectors of the economy like health, agriculture and governance.

“We are moving ahead with the thrust to ensure that we provide internet communication services not only to the education sector, but all sectors of our society including agriculture and health, among others. We are all aware of the importance of the ICTs and we as POTRAZ will ensure we fulfill the mandate that we were given in ensuring that no place and no person is left behind,” said Dr Machengete.
