Top-ranked Zimbabwe female bantamweight boxer Kudakwashe ‘Take Money’ Chiwandire is in “beast mood”, and is prepared to fight until the last breath as she bids to become the new WBC interim bantamweight champion.
She takes on former champion Catherine Phiri of Zambia in Lusaka on Saturday.
A single mother of three, Chiwandire is aiming to become the first Zimbabwean female boxer to clinch the coveted WBC title.
The 26-year-old Highfield-bred boxer arrived in Lusaka on Wednesday accompanied by respected trainer Clyde Musonda of Deltaforce Academy.
Musonda was in a bullish mood when The Sunday Mail Sport caught up with him Thursday afternoon.
“We arrived safely here. We were received well and I can tell you the boxer is in a beast mood,” Musonda said.
“I am happy she is physically and mentally fit. We are just waiting for the day to come.”
The boxer camped for almost three months ahead of the fight, which could define her career.
“We knew about this fight four months ago and we are prepared. I just want to thank everyone who assisted us to be where we are today, and also those who failed.
“Morale is high. It’s either I am bringing home the belt or a coffin. She is prepared to die on the ring literary, if need be.
“This is her opportunity and she knows she cannot let it go,” Musonda said.
Chiwandire faces an experienced boxer in Phiri, who, at 35-years-old, now has a record of 16-4-0, including 10 knockouts.
Phiri is also a former WBC world champion, who usually puts up good performances in Lusaka.
She is managed by Zambian boxing stable Oriental Quarries, who also took charge of Zimbabwean star Charles Manyuchi when he captured the WBC Silver welterweight belt in 2016.
